Pipe Twist

Rotate the pipe pieces until every square is connected to the red source in the middle.

About Pipe Twist

Pipe Twist gives you a five by five board of pipe pieces, each spun to a random angle. Somewhere in that tangle is a network that links every square to the source in the centre. Turn the pieces until you find it.

How it works

There are straight pieces, corners, T-junctions, dead ends and the odd four-way cross. Tapping a piece rotates it by ninety degrees. The status line shows how many squares are currently connected and how many turns you have used.

Every board is built from a finished network and then scrambled, so a solution always exists. The finished network has no closed loops, which is a useful fact: if you find you have made a ring of pipes, something in it is wrong.

Solving tips

Begin at the edges. A pipe must never point off the board, because there is nothing there to connect to. A straight piece on an edge has to lie along that edge. A T-junction on an edge must have its flat side against the edge. A corner piece in a corner square has only one possible position.

Next, use the pieces you have fixed. If a settled pipe points at its neighbour, that neighbour must point back. If a settled pipe does not point at its neighbour, the neighbour must not point at it either. Each fixed piece reduces the choices for the next.

Dead ends are informative too. A dead end has a single opening, so once you know which neighbour feeds it, it is done.

Leave the centre until last. The source and its neighbours usually fall into place once the outside is fixed. For a quick, calm five minutes, few HTML5 games are as tidy as this one.
