About Untangle
Untangle is a puzzle about a knot that is not really a knot. Nine dots are linked by a web of lines, and at the start the web is a mess of crossings. Move the dots around and it will open out flat, with no line crossing any other.
How it works
Press on a dot and drag it. On a phone, use a finger. The lines attached to it stretch and follow. The status line counts how many lines are still involved in a crossing, and the picture is checked each time you let go.
Every puzzle starts life as a flat, crossing-free drawing which the game then scrambles onto a circle. So a solution always exists. Your layout does not have to match the original. Any arrangement without crossings counts.
Solving tips
Find the busiest dot. A dot with five or six lines is the hub of the web. Drag it to the middle of the board and many crossings disappear at once.
Find the quietest dots too. A dot with only two lines can be tucked next to its neighbours, well out of the way. Dots like these belong on the outside.
Look for triangles. Three dots that are all joined to one another form a fixed shape. Whatever else is connected to all three must sit inside it or outside it, and deciding which often unlocks the puzzle.
Deal with one red line at a time. Pick a crossing, ask which of its four end dots could move to the other side of the offending line, and move it. Sometimes this creates a new crossing elsewhere. If so, try a different end.
Spread things out. Crowded layouts hide crossings. It is one of the more hands-on HTML5 games here, and oddly calming.
